A security guard in Bulawayo got an eighteen-month sentence for stealing from the school he was supposed to protect. Nhlanhla Mkhwananzi, who is forty seven and worked for Fawcett Security Company, was convicted of unlawful entry and theft by magistrate Vimbayi Chirayi. He broke into Carmel Primary School's sports office last December by forcing a window open, taking a bunch of sporting gear and other items like tennis balls, sunhats, and a laptop charger. The court suspended six months of his sentence for five years, leaving him with an effective year behind bars, and all the stolen property, worth about a hundred and fifty bucks, was recovered.
In a totally separate but similar case, another Bulawayo security guard pleaded guilty to stealing from his own employer. Kudzanai Chikwiramakomo, fifty-three, was sentenced to fifteen months for taking boards from Boardex Zimbabwe valued at six hundred sixty-six dollars. Magistrate Jeconia Prince Ncube suspended part of that term, leaving him with nine months to serve, but only if he pays back the full amount by a deadline next January. He and an accomplice who is still on the run were caught loading the stolen items by another guard who showed up unexpectedly, with about five hundred dollars worth of the boards later recovered.
