Ghana driver jailed for 12 months for stealing GHS100,000 from employer

An Accra Circuit Court sent driver Ebenezer Nii Adjei to prison for one year after he admitted stealing money from his boss. The 30-year-old man took GH¢100,000 and spent the cash on a vehicle and motorcycle. He also used some funds to pay for an apartment and furniture. Judge Susan Eduful heard the case and learned that officers had found the stolen items. Police recovered both the car and motorbike from Adjei after his arrest.

Event organizer Alidu Arimiyaw from Nungua had hired Adjei as his driver for several months. The theft happened on May 21, 2025, when both men were working at the same location. Arimiyaw left a bag containing the large sum of money inside their car and went to complete a transaction with a mobile money agent. He had told a decorator earlier that the cash was meant for an upcoming celebration. Adjei saw his employer walking back toward the vehicle and decided to drive away with the bag.

The driver abandoned the stolen car somewhere and ran from the scene. Arimiyaw filed a police report about the missing money and vehicle. Officers tracked down Adjei and arrested him for the crime. Chief Inspector Clemence Takyi told the court that Adjei admitted to taking the money during police questioning. Prosecutors confirmed that the recovered car and motorcycle would be used as evidence against the convicted man.
