Ex-judge's driver jailed for scamming convict's wife

A judge's driver scammed a desperate wife, promising freedom he could not deliver, earning Henry Ntini an eighteen-month prison stay. Bulawayo Provincial Magistrate Richard Ramaboea handed down a three-year sentence but suspended half after the Southworld resident swindled Jane Queen Ghoveya out of nearly five thousand American dollars.

Prosecutor Milton Moyo explained that Khumbulani Sithole was serving ten years for murder at Khami Maximum Prison when his spouse sought help. The family paid huge sums hoping Ntini could influence the Supreme Court to grant bail pending an appeal, yet that legal bid ultimately failed miserably.

While Ntini heads to lockup, his co-defendant Zamani Gwizi walked free after the court ruled he merely acted as a messenger. The magistrate noted Ntini actually signed an affidavit admitting he returned some funds to save his employment, yet he must still pay restitution of twenty-four hundred dollars.

Ghoveya realized the scam worked when a presiding judge dismissed the appeal for being improperly filed. She eventually contacted the Commercial Crimes Division, leading to arrests after her multiple attempts to get a refund hit a dead end.
