Tab Reader 4 opens Guitar Pro files from GP3 through GP8 and carries their fingering positions, articulations, and note expressions straight into Riffer. That is the whole pitch. It is also where most people stop reading, then wonder why the import sounds wrong.
A tab is not MIDI. It already knows which string every note sits on, and a plain MIDI export throws that away the moment you generate it. Keep the data, and you get a tab that plays back with its original fingering rather than a pile of notes the engine has to guess at.
The import itself takes seconds. Getting a usable result takes care at three specific points, and the first one happens before you press play.

Natural harmonics, slide in and slide out, and slide guitar are all absent.
So a tab full of harmonic chimes imports without complaint and plays back as ordinary plucked notes. Nothing errors. Nothing warns you. You get a flatter version of the part and have to work out why yourself, which usually means opening the score and hunting for the harmonic markings.
Riffer keeps the fingering data live, so it is the better option for anything you plan to rework. But the free version caps Riffer at 64 measures, and most songs run longer. The drag export carries no such limit, which makes it the practical choice for a whole arrangement.
Set BPM Sync before you drag, so the tab follows your host tempo and time signature rather than the score's own. Then use the humanize controls on timing and velocity, because Guitar Pro writes every note at one value unless the tabber deliberately varied it, and most tabbers do not.
Individual measures have a third route. Convert a measure into a Strummer rhythm pattern, and you get an editable strum you can reuse across a song, then drag any of the eight SEQ slots into your DAW as a MIDI groove. That beats importing a whole strummed chorus, because the tab gives you the voicing, and the SEQ gives you the feel.
