Gulu Amuru Towns Forced Into Maize Mania

Gulu and Amuru districts created new rules to help farmers grow more maize. Seatini Uganda and Trade Mark Africa worked with local leaders to make these laws official. The rules will apply to Guru-guru area of Amuru district and Paicho area of Gulu district. Officials want farmers to produce better quality corn and sell it at higher prices.

Herbert Kafeero from Seatini Uganda says the laws fix problems that hurt maize farming. Leaders talked about safety standards and better growing methods during planning meetings. The new rules also strengthen how farmers process and market their crops after harvest. Quality control measures will make local maize more competitive against imports.

John Bosco Tumwesigye leads Gulu district government operations. He believes farmers will earn more money and feed their families better with these laws. Steven Ojara works for Amuru district council and wants farmers to learn proper growing techniques. The region hopes to supply maize products to neighboring areas and boost local income.
