Gunpoint Showdown as Soldiers Order Cop to Strip

Ten soldiers stormed Wakiso Police Division on Monday night demanding freedom for arrested suspects. The military team pointed guns at police commander Esther Kiiza and ordered her to remove her uniform. Kiiza refused to undress and asked which orders she had broken. The soldiers claimed she was under arrest for defying their commands. Thirteen police officers saw the confrontation and surrounded the building with weapons ready.

The soldiers fled when they saw armed police officers protecting their commander. Police called regional commander Moses Nanoka who brought military backup from Kakiri barracks. Officers chased the fleeing soldiers and caught them at Yesu Amala area. The soldiers refused to leave their cars without permission from higher officers. Police arrested all ten soldiers despite their protests.

Military officials took the arrested soldiers to Kakiri barracks instead of jail. Last month similar problems happened at Lubowa police station where Special Forces soldiers beat up officers. Lieutenant Samson Amo hit station commander Innocent Sunday for refusing illegal detention orders. Police charged Amo with robbery but the case stopped because Special Forces will not release him for trial.
