Guyana to export fresh produce directly to CARICOM nations

Guyana will launch direct agricultural exports to fellow Caribbean Community nations within a year, President Mohamed Irfaan Ali revealed while breaking ground on an upgraded Bartica airport terminal. The initiative positions hinterland farmers to supply regional markets with fresh commodities while advancing bloc objectives to slash food import expenditures by one-quarter.

Enhanced aviation infrastructure will slash delivery times for Region Seven growers seeking Caribbean buyers, creating revenue channels for mining communities pivoting toward crop production and processing. Ali emphasized that interior producers will gain full participation in national and regional commerce rather than watching coastal zones monopolize economic advancement.

Authorities are coordinating with carriers and oversight bodies to establish distribution networks capable of moving perishables from inland farms to international destinations.
