Tensions have escalated in Village 6 of Nyandeni, Gwanda, as residents accuse Gwanda Municipality Town Clerk Priscillar Nkala of attempting to settle on local land without proper consultation or approval. Villagers say Nkala began clearing land and cutting trees before securing community consent, alleging the stand was obtained through questionable means from a local council parking marshal, Nkulumo Ncube. Community members have reported ongoing objections since last year, claiming that only a select group of leaseholders is consulted by officials, leaving most residents sidelined.
Villagers also allege that meeting minutes have been manipulated to favor certain individuals, and some residents report facing intimidation after objecting to Nkala’s settlement. Despite a recent community meeting where youth rejected her presence, Nkala returned with support from two local elders, while 60 other stand holders maintain their opposition. Nyandeni Village Head Johane Moyo confirmed awareness of the dispute and plans to hold another meeting. Nkala has denied the claims, stating she has no plans to build there and that the situation has been exaggerated.
