Gweru finally gets its own airport

Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube believes Gweru can become a major investment hub if its old airfield becomes a modern airport. He visited the Midlands capital recently to share this vision. The city sits at Zimbabwe's center near important industrial operations, which makes it perfect for better air connections. This upgrade could help Zimbabwe reach its Vision 2030 goals through economic growth.

The minister explained that a working airport would help business travel, shipping, and investment flows. Many large companies operate in Midlands Province, such as Dinson Iron Steel Company at Manhize, ZimAlloys, Mimosa Mining Company, Unki Mines, and Sable Chemicals. Limited air access currently prevents efficient business movement into the area. A proper airport would create jobs, improve shipping efficiency, attract investors, and boost tourism and real estate.

Gweru Mayor Martin Chivhoko confirmed the City Council has made upgrading the airfield a priority. He expects progress within six months as plans for expansion move forward. The project faced delays because of slow paperwork processing at the Deeds Office. The government found a private partner to help develop the airport. This project supports plans to make Midlands an economic powerhouse.
