Hakimi worships Zidane as Dembélé steals Ballon d’Or

Paris Saint-Germain defender Achraf Hakimi credits former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane with launching his professional career. The Moroccan international told Canal+ that Zidane promoted him from the Castilla reserve squad at age 17. The French legend gave the young defender first-team opportunities during a period when few coaches trusted teenagers. Hakimi expressed lasting gratitude for the faith Zidane showed in his abilities.

The defender made nine appearances for Madrid during the 2017-2018 campaign and netted two goals. He emphasized that Zidane opened doors to top-level football when other managers might have overlooked his potential. Hakimi ranks among the world's elite full-backs after finishing sixth in 2025 Ballon d'Or voting. His PSG teammate Ousmane Dembele claimed the prestigious award.
