Harare Car Blaze Fuels Coup Gossip

Someone set fire to four cars early Friday morning outside properties connected to several wealthy men in Zimbabwe. The fires broke out at different spots across Harare between midnight and 4 AM. Police commissioner Paul Nyathi reported that drivers parked these vehicles near specific buildings, started the fires, and then jumped into waiting cars that sped away.

The targets included places linked to John Mangudya, who runs the Mutapa Investment Fund, businessman Wicknell Chivayo at his IMC Communications office in Avondale, and Kudakwashe Tagwirei, who operates from Argyle Road in Newlands. Attackers also burned a vehicle at a DA Motors fuel station in Highlands because people associate this company with Tagwirei.

Police believe these attacks might stem from recent statements by Blessed Geza, a former military veteran. Just two days earlier, Geza publicly called these four men "criminals around the president." The outspoken veteran currently faces treason charges but has asked citizens across Zimbabwe to rise up against President Emmerson Mnangagwa on March 31.

President Mnangagwa has responded by placing security forces on high alert throughout the country. He also fired the army chief recently because he fears former friends might plan to overthrow him. These tensions mark a dangerous escalation of political conflict inside Zimbabwe as the president tries to protect his position against growing threats.
