Harare court hears Xiang Jun's fraud trial over $322,381 chrome scam

Harare Regional magistrate Donald Ndirowei heard fraud charges against Xiang Jun on Thursday. The 40-year-old Chinese citizen allegedly deceived a local businessman by promising to supply chrome, antimony, and copper while securing export permits. Prosecutors claim Jun collected $322,381 from the victim during June 2024 after making false promises about his mineral acquisition abilities. The defendant received $300 bail and must return to court on August 20, 2025.

State prosecutor Rufaro Chonzi presented evidence showing Jun signed the receipt documents after collecting the payment. Witness Li Yuchun observed the transaction and can testify about the exchange. The businessman paid the substantial sum based on Jun's representations about mineral supplies and export documentation. Jun avoided contact with the complainant after receiving the funds and never delivered the promised materials or services. The victim lost the entire amount without recovering any portion of the payment.
