Robert Mugabe Jnr received a suspended prison sentence and a fine for drug possession. A Harare magistrate ordered him to pay a 300 US dollar fine for possessing two grammes of dagga. He also received a three-month prison term, which was suspended for five years on the condition he does not commit a similar offense.
Magistrate Lisa Mutendereki explained that the sentence considered his guilty plea and his status as a youthful offender. She also stated that courts must participate in combating prevalent drug abuse. Failure to pay the fine would result in a four-month jail term.
His arrest occurred last month after police stopped him for driving the wrong way on Second Street Extension. A search of his bag revealed the dagga, along with rolling papers and a crusher.
