A Harare farmer lost 250 dressed chickens worth US$1,500 after a scam on Tuesday, October 28, 2025. Lucia Nyamayaro said two men arrived in a Toyota Hilux, claiming to represent a buyer she had contacted online. They handed her a bundle of cash she counted as US$1,500, then asked for it back briefly to retrieve butchery keys. When they returned the bundle during loading, she accepted it without rechecking.
After they drove off, she found only a single US$20 note wrapped around old, worthless Zimbabwean bills. She reported the theft to Avondale Police under case number RRB 6484751. Authorities urge sellers to verify each note, avoid handing over goods before payment is confirmed, and record buyer details such as vehicle registration and phone numbers.
