Harare Flooding Impact

When it rained in Harare this week, some parts of the Central Business District flooded. This happened because the storm drains were blocked. The blocked drains made big puddles of water on the roads, making it hard for people to walk and drive. Some of the flooded places were at the corners of Sir Seretse Khama Street and Robson Manyika Avenue, as well as Robert Mugabe Road and Julius Nyerere Way.

Shops near the flooded areas didn't sell much, and customers couldn't get to them easily. One shop owner, Ms Providence Man'ena, said water was everywhere, stopping customers from reaching her shop. She thinks better drains are needed to handle the water, and she said it's becoming a common problem.

The flooding also caused bad traffic jams. Drivers had a tough time on the streets. Some parking spots had potholes full of water. This was especially bad on Robson Manyika Avenue near Sir Seretse Khama Street.

Mr Stanley Gama works for the Harare City Council. He said that flooding is a problem in the city. He mentioned that the council has been fixing blocked drains for three months. He said the Central Business District is very big. Sometimes, they don't know about these issues. But when people tell them, they usually fix the problems quickly.
