Harare kids hit by rash outbreak, officials calm fears

Harare is seeing a major spike in Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease cases. City health officials report over fifteen hundred infections, mostly in kids under ten years old. Health Minister Douglas Mombeshora and Harare Health Director Prosper Chonzi confirmed the outbreak, calling the viral illness generally mild and not likely to cause deaths.

The disease spreads through contact with blister fluids or other direct means. Officials believe the current school break will help slow transmission. They emphasized basic hygiene like handwashing to prevent further spread. The infection is common among young children and typically clears up on its own without needing hospital care. Authorities are monitoring the situation but stress it remains manageable.
