Harare dropped some news about self-service parking zones, and everyone started panicking that the parking marshals were getting canned. City officials had to come out and basically say nobody is losing their gig, which probably bummed out drivers who have beef with those yellow-vested attendants over sketchy change practices and aggressive vibes.
The unmanned setup only hits two specific strips in the city center: Third Street running from Jason Moyo Avenue to Robert Mugabe Road, and Park Street between Jason Moyo Avenue and Samora Machel Avenue. Every other street keeps the marshals doing their thing, but motorists can still use digital payment options if they want to skip the cash interaction.
The new system requires people to pay through a USSD code, WhatsApp bot, or some app called Park Assist. City management is treating this as a test run to see if the tech angle works before rolling it out wider.
