Harare vows crackdown on land barons duping hard-pressed residents

Harare city officials warn residents about criminals who sell government and municipal land without permission. These land dealers trick people into paying money for property they cannot legally own. The scammers tell buyers that city council will make their illegal purchases legal later. Officials say this promise is false and people lose their money.

City workers have finished checking all illegal land takeovers across Harare. Council members will review the findings before releasing a public report about the problems. Enforcement actions will start soon under current government rules and city policies. Officials plan to follow all legal procedures during the crackdown.

Residents must stop buying land from unauthorized sellers immediately. Building homes without approved plans violates city rules. Living on council or state property without permission breaks the law. People who continue these activities face serious consequences.

Warren Park, Mabvuku-Tafara and Budiriro areas have major problems with illegal construction projects. Private landowners also face unauthorized building on their property. City officials will publicly identify people who break land development rules.

Anyone tricked by land dealers should contact police right away. The district office also accepts reports about illegal land invasions and development. People with questions about land ownership or development rules can visit the District Office. The Director of Urban Planning Services at Cleveland House also provides information about legal requirements.
