Bulgaria opened a 10-kilometer stretch of the Hemus highway between Boaza and Dermantsi road junctions to vehicles under 12 tons on Sunday morning. Regional Development Minister Ivan Ivanov and mandate holder Boyko Borisov planned to inspect the route that begins at the 88-kilometer mark and connects to the Lukovit-Ugarchin road. Workers completed four bridge structures over the Vit River at kilometers 89 through 98, with each bridge featuring dual lanes per traffic direction.
Construction teams expect to finish the Dermantsi junction to the 103-kilometer staging connection next month. A temporary link at kilometer 103 will direct traffic until crews complete the next highway segment. Sections 2 and 3 continue development across 36.28 kilometers from Dermantsi junction to the Pleven-Lovech road connection.
