Hero HIL hijacks UP Rudras for 2026, auctions still on

The Hockey India League Governing Council assumed control of UP Rudras franchise operations for the 2026 season. Officials made this decision after the original owners cited financial difficulties as their reason for withdrawal. The Council will operate the team temporarily while seeking new ownership through open negotiations with potential buyers. This intervention preserves player participation opportunities and maintains league competition standards. The move ensures all scheduled matches proceed without disruption.

The franchise change occurred during the Mini Auctions featuring over 100 male and female athletes. Teams operate under budget restrictions of four crore rupees for men and two crore rupees for women. Each roster requires exactly 20 members with two goalkeepers and 18 field players. International recruitment limits allow seven foreign athletes while mandating three junior Indian players per squad. Bidding starts at two lakh rupees minimum for all participant categories.
