Highlanders turn to caretaker Try Ncube to end long title drought

Try Ncube takes charge of Highlanders football club during one of its most difficult periods. The new caretaker coach replaces Kelvin Kaindu after the team struggled with poor results. Highlanders officials made the coaching change following a disappointing draw and several weak performances. The club hopes Ncube can restore its former success after years of decline. Many supporters question whether the timing was right for this leadership change.

Highlanders has not captured a league championship since 2006, creating a painful 19-year gap for fans. The team last won major silverware during 2019 when Prince Dube scored the winning goal against Ngezi Platinum. Before that victory, the club claimed the 2015 Easycall Cup under different management. Recent seasons have brought only average results and broken promises. The once-proud team has fallen from title contender to middle-table finisher.

Squad quality remains a major concern for the new coach and club leadership. Several key players departed for Scotland without adequate replacements joining the roster. The team promoted young players like Talent Dube and Mvelo Khoza before they gained enough experience. Critics blame poor recruiting choices and regional bias for current problems. Many believe the current players lack the skill level needed for Highlanders.

Businessman Wicknell Chivayo promised one million dollars to help rebuild the team. Ncube must spend this money carefully to acquire five quality players who can compete for championships. His first match will test his abilities against league-leading MWOS. The transfer window opens July 1, giving him time to strengthen the squad. Success depends on smart recruiting decisions and avoiding past mistakes.
