The Gambia held a big party for teachers at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Center. This party gave prizes to teachers who helped students learn well. The Namie Foundation and the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education planned this special event together.
Ms. Angelic Isatou Mendy won the biggest prize. She became the first woman to win this important award since it started in 2019. Ms. Mendy teaches at Pakalinding Upper Basic School in the Lower River Region. She was very happy about winning and said thank you. She wanted her students to share in her success.
When Ms. Mendy spoke to everyone, she said nice things about other teachers. She said, "I feel honored to receive this award. This prize belongs to every student with dreams, every teacher who works hard, and everyone who believes in making school better." Ms. Mendy promised to keep teaching with love.
The award encourages teachers to consider how they can help build their country through teaching. Bintou Jatta Susso from the Namie Foundation said the prize motivates teachers to teach even better. Muhammed Mustapha Jagne, who has won before, said the award changed his life and helped him meet people who care about education.
Lamin Jarjou said good teachers make students want to learn. He thinks teachers are like candles because they use their energy to help others see clearly. Professor Pierre Gomez promised to give money to the school to teachers who win awards.
Many important people came to the party. Vice President Muhammad B.S. Jallow said education helps the country grow strong. He told the teachers, "You build our future. Every doctor, engineer, and leader had a teacher who helped them learn."
