Huayou ATZ $400m lithium sulphate beast, Goromonzi Zim

Huayou Cobalt subsidiary Arcadia Technology Zimbabwe approaches completion of its $400 million lithium sulphate processing facility in Goromonzi. The plant represents Africa's first such operation and marks the third facility of this type worldwide. Commissioning will begin during the first quarter of next year. The facility will generate more than 1,000 employment opportunities while producing 50,000 tonnes of lithium sulphate annually. This development positions Zimbabwe as a significant contributor to the global lithium battery materials supply chain.

The project directly addresses Zimbabwe's upcoming prohibition on lithium concentrate exports beginning January 2027. ATZ will install a 70-megawatt thermal power station to ensure consistent electricity supply for operations. The investment supports the government's National Development Strategy goals for economic growth and industrial capacity expansion. Road infrastructure connecting the site to the Harare-Mutare Highway has received substantial upgrades with four kilometers already completed. Prospect Lithium Zimbabwe has contributed over $3 million to community development initiatives since operations started in 2022.
