Hwange's Empumalanga West housing project set to begin Phase I this year

The Hwange Local Board's Empumalanga West Housing Project, a major low-cost housing initiative, is scheduled to begin its first phase before the end of the year. Town Secretary Ndumiso Mdlalose reported that this project represents a significant step in fulfilling the government's national housing objectives. The development will provide 2,145 residential stands for low-income earners.

Substantial progress has already been made, with beneficiaries procuring specialized GRP pipes to complete the sewer system for Phase I. Mdlalose highlighted the durability and cost-effectiveness of these pipes, which are suited for demanding environments. A new layout plan has been finalized, enabling the issuance of a partial development certificate so construction can start.

The board is actively engaging with the supervising Ministry of Housing and Social Amenities to accelerate the project's completion, recognizing its potential to stimulate local economic development. Mdlalose also expressed appreciation for the commitment shown by the future residents.
