ICT drags Inu as the first pol nabbed for 2024 riots

Bangladesh's International Crimes Tribunal postponed charge proceedings against Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal leader Hasanul Haq Inu until Oct. 14 after both sides requested delays during Monday's scheduled session. The three-judge panel granted extensions following arguments from prosecutor Gazi MH Tamim and defense attorney Naznin Nahar. Inu faces eight counts tied to command responsibility during violence that killed seven people in Kushtia amid protests leading to the Aug. 5, 2024 government collapse.

Police detained the former information minister Aug. 26 in Dhaka's Uttara neighborhood after investigators submitted findings on crimes against humanity accusations. The tribunal accepted formal charges Sept. 25 against Inu as the sole defendant. He represents the first politician arrested under allegations of ordering attacks during demonstrations that toppled the Awami League administration.
