IEAG Demands Mahama End 1 Point 43M Fuel Deal

Ghana business leaders want President Mahama to cancel the Strategic Mobilization Ghana Limited contract immediately. The Importers and Exporters Association says SML receives 1.43 million dollars monthly for work already done better. Executive Secretary Samson Asaki Awingobit told reporters the National Petroleum Authority handles fuel monitoring through digital systems. The government wastes taxpayer money on duplicate services that provide no extra value. SML performs the same tasks NPA already completes at lower costs.

Association members demand five specific actions from the current administration regarding the controversial agreement. Leaders want all SML payments since 2018 made public and recovered money redirected to schools and healthcare. The group calls for blacklisting SML from future contracts and investigating officials who approved the deal. Awingobit says parliament should oversee all revenue contracts to prevent similar problems. The organization seeks reforms that require competitive bidding for government monitoring services.

Business owners argue the contract lacks transparency and competitive selection processes despite SML having no prior revenue experience. The association believes terminating this agreement would free funds for President Mahama's healthcare initiative and education projects. Leaders warn continued payments damage public trust and weaken financial institutions tasked with protecting state resources. The group emphasizes their concerns focus on fiscal responsibility rather than political motivations. Ghana faces economic challenges that make wasteful spending particularly harmful to national development goals.
