IEBC assures Magarini by-election will be free and fair

Kenya's electoral commission has refuted accusations of bias ahead of a parliamentary by-election in Magarini Constituency, pledging to deliver a transparent vote. Chairman Erastus Edung Ethekon addressed concerns raised by opposition figure Rigathi Gachagua, who alleged that senior electoral officials were meddling in preparations for the contest.

The commission emphasized that returning officers received appointments through legally prescribed channels and operate free from external pressure. Political organizations reviewed the roster of polling staff earlier this month, with deployment pending completion of training protocols. Election workers must function independently without accepting directives from partisan interests, Ethekon stated.

Multi-tier monitoring mechanisms will oversee the ballot, which proceeds under constitutional frameworks with accredited observers and party representatives present throughout the process.
