IGP Merlyn Yolamu shields the names of eight Nkhoma suspects

Police will withhold the identities of eight individuals suspected of tampering with 2025 election data, Inspector General Merlyn Yolamu declared. The announcement came during a Saturday evening press briefing hosted by the Malawi Electoral Commission. Yolamu stated that revealing suspect names would compromise ongoing investigations. The accused worked as a data entry clerk at the Nkhoma constituency counting facility. Legal requirements mandate formal charges within a 48-hour period for all detained suspects.

Police spokesman Peter Kalaya verified the September 19th arrests of the eight individuals. Authorities launched their probe after investigating an attempted suicide incident involving Clement Chikankha. Chikankha served as the MEC Constituency Returning Officer for the Lilongwe Nkhoma area. The investigation connected the suicide attempt to broader concerns about election data integrity. Law enforcement officials continue examining potential manipulation of electoral information at multiple constituency centers.
