IK Multimedia charges another €100 for a Van Halen tone they fear

IK Multimedia completed its Brown Sound series with the 82/84 Signature Collection for the TONEX platform. This final installment contains 83 Tone Models that capture guitar tones from legendary 1982 and 1984 recording sessions. The collection references Eddie Van Halen's iconic sound from that era, though the company avoids direct naming. Musicians can access amp-only captures designed for pairing with impulse responses or live cabinet setups.

The sonic evolution tracks changes from Amigo Studios sessions in 1982 to refined Coldwater Canyon recordings by 1984. Earlier sessions featured G12-65 speakers and layered characteristics, while later work displayed more controlled precision through Telefunken EL34s and Variac adjustments. The models center around The ONE amplifier, built to 1968 Super Lead specifications with period-accurate modifications.

This release joins previous collections covering the 1978-79 and 1980-81 periods. Each series costs €99.99 and remains available through Mac/PC versions of TONEX and the ToneNET platform.
