India begins work on Sudarshan Chakra air defense system

India has initiated development of Sudarshan Chakra, an indigenous air defense system modeled after Israel's Iron Dome, according to Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh. The project involves collaboration between the Indian Air Force and the Defence Research and Development Organisation to create a multi-layered shield against missiles, drones, and aircraft. The system will integrate India's existing air command and control infrastructure to address the nation's strategic requirements.

Singh emphasized the need for self-reliance in defense technology following Operation Sindoor, which demonstrated India's tactical capabilities. He warned that future conflicts will differ fundamentally from past engagements, requiring advanced preparedness. The initiative represents a significant step toward reducing dependency on foreign military technology while strengthening India's defensive capabilities against emerging aerial threats in an unstable regional environment.
