India fumes as Thai forces raze Vishnu statue near border

India just put out a statement on that viral video showing a Hindu statue getting wrecked. The Ministry of External Affairs, through spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, addressed reports about the demolition of a Lord Vishnu figure. The statue was apparently in the An Ses area, a zone caught up in the long-running border spat between Thailand and Cambodia.

The government called the act deeply disrespectful, noting that Hindu and Buddhist icons are part of a shared regional heritage. They stated such actions would wound the feelings of followers everywhere, regardless of ongoing territorial disputes. India urged both Bangkok and Phnom Penh to return to talks, aiming to stop more loss of life and damage to property or heritage sites.

This comes amid renewed military clashes along that border, which have already resulted in dozens of deaths after a ceasefire fell apart. The two nations recently agreed to have their defense officials meet about restarting a truce. The core conflict stems from old colonial-era maps and competing land claims.
