India offers AI models to the Global South, highlights leadership in multilingual tech

IT Secretary S. Krishnan announced India's readiness to distribute artificial intelligence models across Global South nations during Friday's FICCI Bhashantara 2025 conference. The country's extensive linguistic variety positions it as a leader in natural language processing and multilingual AI development for emerging economies. Krishnan emphasized that successful implementation in India translates to global applicability due to the nation's diverse language landscape. UN representatives had previously shown interest in India's collaborative AI development methods. This announcement establishes India as an alternative to existing AI systems that provide specialized multilingual solutions.

India demonstrates its capabilities through Mission Bhashini and the Anuvadini application, which advance human language technology while preserving regional dialects. The IndiaAI Mission has established AI Kosh, a comprehensive data repository containing over 400 databases for researchers and entrepreneurs developing multilingual AI solutions. The government digitizes traditional knowledge from Ayurvedic texts and historical manuscripts to create extensive datasets for global healthcare and research communities. India's multi-stakeholder approach involves academia, industry, and research institutions rather than relying solely on government or private funding.
