Information Secretary Advocates Investigative Journalism to Strengthen Justice

Bangladesh's top information official praised reporters who dig deep for stories at a training event Tuesday. Secretary Mahbuba Farjana told law journalists that their work helps build trust between courts and citizens. She spoke to dozens of reporters gathered at the National Institute of Mass Communication. The training session focused on teaching better investigation methods for court coverage. Farjana said truth-seeking journalism makes government actions more open to public view.

Three major organizations worked together to create the reporter training program. The Supreme Court Administration partnered with the United Nations Development Programme for the event. Sweden's embassy provided funding and support for the workshop activities. Director General Muhammad Hiruzzaman led the session from the communication institute. His staff helped coordinate speakers and materials for the day-long program.

Court officials shared updates about recent changes to the justice system. Registrar General Dr Aziz Ahmed Bhuiyan explained new reforms that judges have started implementing. He outlined steps the Supreme Court has taken to improve how cases move through the system. The presentation covered progress made since the Chief Justice announced the reform plan. Legal experts answered questions about upcoming changes to court procedures.

United Nations representative Anowarul Haq called investigative reporting a tool for fairness. He told participants that media coverage helps connect ordinary people with government leaders. His organization continues working with courts and legal officials on system improvements. Hiruzzaman praised journalists as leaders who push society toward positive change. The workshop ended with plans for future training sessions.
