iPhone 18 eyes hidden Face ID as Apple tests prototypes

Leakers claim Apple just started building iPhone 18 prototypes with hidden sensors. Digital Chat Station on Weibo suggests the tech giant kicked off manufacturing for the upcoming series while planning to keep the top spot in the smartphone world. Fixed-focus digital cameras previously hinted that production lines had already undergone testing already. This fresh intel points to the Pro models getting under-display Face ID hardware.

Cupertino apparently refuses to kill the second-generation iPhone Air despite the first one flopping hard. Digital Chat Station listed display sizes for four standard handsets without saying a single word about the rumored iPhone Fold. That foldable device supposedly got ignored here while the budget iPhone 18e might drop later under an iPhone 20 rebrand.

Every single phone in this batch reportedly rocks an LTPO OLED panel capable of hitting 120Hz refresh rates. The base iPhone 18 and Pro variant supposedly share a 6.27-inch screen size. That thinner Air model comes in at 6.55 inches while the massive Pro Max stretches to 6.86 inches. Only the premium siblings get the fancy sensors buried under the glass.

Tech enthusiasts should remember that testing phases often produce wild variants that never hit shelves. Engineers might change specs if these early builds fail performance standards. Full under-screen cameras probably stay locked away until the twentieth anniversary celebration down the road.
