iPhone 18 Pro eyes punch hole camera at last

Apple is finally ditching the ugly screen pill for a tiny hole. Gossip suggests the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max will hide facial recognition sensors beneath the OLED panel. This shift brings the tech giant closer to a seamless display utilizing a punch-hole style common on Androids. While competitors lack secure face scanning, this upgrade aims to keep that feature intact while reclaiming screen real estate.

A leaker named Smart Pikachu on Weibo claims one test unit features the selfie lens shoved into the top-left corner. That placement mimics the ancient Galaxy S10, though Samsung put their optics on the right side. Nobody knows why engineers would move the sensor away from the center, where TrueDepth components usually sit.

This specific layout represents just one experimental mock-up among many. Manufacturing facilities are reportedly stressing testing procedures to see if micro-transparent glass can effectively conceal the unlocking hardware. Success here determines if the final product actually delivers invisible security features when it drops.

High-end models will likely arrive with the iPhone Fold, marking the brand's first bendable handset. The standard iPhone 18 and a budget-friendly iPhone 18e might surface early next cycle, potentially carrying an iPhone 20 moniker.
