Israel Orders Evacuation of Northern Gaza as US President Pushes Ceasefire Deal

Israeli forces told Palestinians to leave parts of northern Gaza before expanding military operations. The army ordered people from Gaza City and Jabalia to move south toward the al-Mawasi coastal area. Officials said the military would increase attacks and move westward across the territory. Hamas health officials reported that 86 people died from Israeli strikes during one 24-hour period. Three children were among those killed when bombs hit the designated safe zone.

President Donald Trump called for a new ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas. He said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was working on negotiations with the militant group. Trump urged both sides to make a deal and return the hostages held in Gaza. Qatar has been helping with talks between the two sides. Mediators hope American pressure will help reach an agreement.

The Maarouf family lost five members when Israeli warplanes struck their tent in al-Mawasi. Three children died alongside their relatives during the early morning attack. The family had moved to the area one month earlier after Israel told them it was safe. The mother said they were sleeping when the bombs fell on their shelter. Their father explained they had followed Israeli instructions to evacuate to that location.

Fighting has continued despite efforts to arrange a new truce. A previous ceasefire lasted from January but ended when Israel resumed attacks in March. Israel said it wanted to pressure Hamas into releasing more hostages. The earlier agreement had three planned stages but never moved past the first phase. More than 56,500 people have died in Gaza since the war began in October 2023.
