ITBP leads Harshil cloudburst rescue as Uttarkashi reels from floods and chaos

ITBP forces have mobilized 130 personnel across five teams to conduct rescue operations following a devastating cloudburst in Uttarkashi's Harshil region. Deputy Inspector General Barinderjit Singh confirmed that rescue teams saved 110 individuals during overnight efforts, transporting survivors to Gangotri Dham and providing medical care at border outposts. The disaster has claimed four lives while seven people remain unaccounted for, with local officials reporting approximately ten individuals affected by the flash floods.

Weather conditions continue hampering rescue efforts as persistent rainfall and cloud cover limit helicopter operations. Multiple agencies collaborate on ground operations while temporary bridge construction facilitates access to affected areas. Air evacuation has commenced from the operational helipad, with five injured victims already transported to medical facilities.

Singh emphasized that cloudburst events remain virtually impossible to predict despite continuous weather monitoring. Rescue teams maintain operations from forward positions equipped with medical supplies and emergency equipment while searching submerged structures for additional survivors.
