Joel Muyanja won over 15 million shillings betting with Gal Sports Betting company. The betting firm blocked his account after the February win and refused payment. Muyanja deposited money twice during February before placing the winning bet. He staked 7.4 million shillings and won 15.3 million total. The company claims he committed fraud during his betting activities.
Muyanja filed a complaint with the National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board. He asked officials to help him recover his rightful winnings from the company. The gambler could still see his balance but could not withdraw or bet anymore. His account remained locked after the large victory occurred. GSB lawyers said they found suspicious activity on his account.
The betting company stated they reserve rights to cancel accounts for fraud. Their legal team said Muyanja withdrew his deposit money before the ban. Company officials maintain they will not pay fraudulent winnings to customers. Similar disputes between bettors and companies have happened before across Uganda.
