Jacqueline Katabazi launches campaign for Rubanda Woman MP seat

Jacqueline Katabazi wants to beat the current woman representative for Rubanda District. She filed her papers Tuesday to run against Prossy Mbabazi and three other candidates. Katabazi returned home Thursday where people welcomed her with gifts and cheers at different markets around the district.

She promised to use her monthly parliament money to buy two ambulances instead of a new car. One ambulance would serve eastern areas and another would help western parts of the district. Katabazi said women die because they cannot reach hospitals when giving birth.

The candidate also wants to provide free delivery kits to all health centers. These kits contain gloves and medical supplies that mothers need during childbirth. Many women stay home because they cannot afford these basic items.

Katabazi plans to start a school fund for poor children who quit classes because of money problems. She also wants to create job training programs to help families earn more income. Local leaders praised her ideas and said they address real community needs.

The district council speaker called her approach honest and helpful. Women cried during her speeches because she talked about problems they face every day. This election will be tough since four women are competing for the same position.
