Jahangirnagar University leaders approved their spending plan for the next school year during a recent meeting. The budget totals 323.35 crore taka for fiscal year 2025-26. Professor M Abdur Rab shared the financial details with university officials at the annual senate session. Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan led the meeting where members discussed the spending proposal. The approved amount represents a decrease from the previous year's budget of 337.93 crore taka.
University officials will spend most of the money on employee costs and benefits. Staff salaries will receive 181.86 crore taka, which equals 59.62 percent of total funds. Pension payments and retirement benefits account for 38.77 crore taka or 10.02 percent of the budget. Medical expenses, computer technology, and mechanical costs receive smaller portions of the overall allocation. Research and education programs will receive 9.23 crore taka, up from 7.24 crore taka last year.
The University Grants Commission will provide 279.35 crore taka to fund most university operations. Internal revenue sources will generate the remaining 44 crore taka needed for the budget. Students will contribute through admission fees and other educational charges. The university will also use money from campus assets and cost reductions to meet financial goals.
