Jamaat plans protest marches in Dhaka and cities over PR poll demands

Jamaat-e-Islami plans demonstrations across Bangladesh to demand government action before February elections. Dr Syed Abdullah Muhammad Taher revealed the party strategy during Monday's press conference at their main office. Thursday will see marches through the capital while Friday brings similar actions to all divisional centers. The organization seeks implementation of the July Charter and adoption of proportionate representation voting methods.

Additional protests will occur nationwide on September 26 if authorities ignore their requests. The party maintains five specific demands for the upcoming electoral process. Fair competition among all political groups represents another key requirement from Jamaat leadership. They also demand public prosecution of former Awami League officials for alleged crimes and corruption. The final demand calls for prohibiting 14 allied organizations and Jatiya Party from participating due to their perceived support of previous authoritarian governance.
