Jamaica set for historic National Stadium revamp as Grange promises world-class venue

Jamaica will begin transforming its National Stadium this August with a three-year renovation project. Culture Minister Olivia Grange announced the ambitious redevelopment plans during a Wednesday press conference. The venue will continue hosting events like Boys and Girls Championships throughout construction with reduced seating capacity. British architectural firms Ryder Architecture and CAA ICON will lead the technical work under a cooperation agreement. The Jamaican government serves as the primary financial backer for this massive undertaking.

The modernized facility will accommodate nearly 38,000 spectators when completed in 2029. Workers will install a new roof covering most of the structure and replace bleacher seating with individual chairs. Enhanced parking will provide space for 4,500 vehicles while new VIP lounges and hospitality boxes cater to premium guests. The upgraded stadium aims to meet FIFA and World Athletics standards for hosting major international competitions. Officials view this investment as essential for maintaining Jamaica's position as a global track and field powerhouse.
