Jamaica reached out through its Miami consulate, and both guys flat-out refused repatriation. They wanted back with their families stateside instead. The 64-year-old pastor Junior Alves has been stateside for 44 years, preaching for 25 of those. His wife Joan, mentioned he might have had some legal trouble roughly four decades back, but kept it vague. Dude apparently scored UN Convention Against Torture protection back in 2016 and had to check in with immigration yearly.
And the other guy? Only known as Miller. DHS has been completely tight-lipped about why these three landed in Eswatini or whether any criminal charges existed. Jamaica's Pretoria office is still trying to reach the third dude while the Washington embassy pokes US authorities for answers.
