Jammu and Kashmir to launch first-ever limestone auction

Federal authorities will inaugurate the sale of seven limestone deposits spanning 314 hectares across Anantnag, Rajouri and Poonch districts in the first mineral auction held in Jammu and Kashmir since 2015 regulatory reforms. Coal and Mines Minister G. Kishan Reddy will lead proceedings alongside Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary.

The blocks hold substantial reserves suitable for cement production and construction applications. Central government intervention through cooperative federalism provisions allows the auction to proceed despite administrative constraints within the territory.

Officials anticipate the transparent bidding process will generate employment, expand industrial capacity and create economic opportunities for residents while adhering to environmental protection standards.
