The chairman of the Bangladesh Jatiya Dal just shut his whole party down to join the BNP. Syed Ehsanul Huda signed up as a member at the BNP's main office in Gulshan. He handed a bouquet to the BNP's secretary general, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
Alamgir said the move shows faith in the acting chairman, Tarique Rahman, and the political ideas of the party's founders. He noted Huda had already been working alongside them in pro-democracy efforts for a while. Another senior BNP figure, Nazrul Islam Khan, said it simplifies things to be in the same party and should boost their fight against the current government.
Huda himself claimed the country is in a tough spot, with attempts to undermine the next election. He stated he dissolved his own group to back Rahman directly. Party insiders say Huda is planning to run for a seat in Kishoreganj with the BNP's support in the upcoming parliamentary race.
