Jatiya Party chairman expels three top leaders after appointing new secretary general

Jatiya Party chief GM Quader kicked out three top party members Monday. He fired former secretary general Mujibul Haque Chunnu, senior co-chairman Anisul Islam Mahmud and co-chairman ABM Ruhul Amin Howlader. The party leader also gave Shamim Haider Patwary the secretary general job. Two separate press releases announced these major changes. The moves took effect right away.

Chunnu had been fighting with Quader over party control. The former secretary general criticized how Quader used his power. Party rules allow the chairman to hire or fire anyone he wants. Trouble started brewing between the two men recently. Their relationship went downhill fast.

Dhaka city leaders complained about the three expelled members on June 25. They accused Chunnu, Anisul and Ruhul Amin of breaking party rules. The city officials wanted punishment for their behavior. Party leaders made the decision to remove them on June 28. The presidium council voted to throw them out.

Anisul and Ruhul Amin fought back with their statement. They called Chunnu's removal unfair and against party rules. The two men said Chunnu was still the real secretary general. They claimed the expulsion happened without good reasons. The pair accused Quader of acting like a dictator.

The expelled leaders said party council elections were already announced. They argued that firing people after announcing elections breaks the rules. Anisul and Ruhul Amin asked party members to fight against unfair treatment. They wanted everyone to stand up to dictatorial actions. The party faces a major split over these decisions.
