JCF finally rolls out 1,000 body cams and trust tests

Jamaican cops finally got body cams after dragging their feet for ages. The Jamaica Constabulary Force started strapping one thousand Axon Body Camera III devices onto officers to fix their reputation. This gear lands after the commissioner promised them, despite Hurricane Melissa messing up the schedule. High-contact units receive priority, while the department shops for a second batch due for arrival later.

Rights groups like Jamaicans for Justice demanded this gear forever to stop shady behavior. They claim independent video builds trust and clarifies fatal shootings where officers lacked surveillance. The JCF insists they want accountability, but they blamed funding issues and logistics for the slow rollout rather than resisting oversight.

Andrew Holness backed the delay while pointing to the need for massive data storage systems. He says the tech infrastructure must exist before the cameras go live. Police leadership argues this tech protects lawful officers from false allegations just as much as it guards citizens' rights.
