A husband has died from burn injuries after an alleged arson attack killed his wife and left their infant fighting for survival at United Bulawayo Hospitals in Zimbabwe. The man succumbed to his wounds eight days after the incident in Matopo, following the death of his 23-year-old spouse, Melissa Ndlovu, on Thursday of last week. Their one-year-old child remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Authorities are searching for Florence Ndlovu from Ntabazinduna, who faces two murder charges in connection with the attack. Family members say the suspect was romantically linked to the husband and allegedly doused the family with gasoline before igniting them at a mining site. Relatives have voiced frustration over what they describe as insufficient police efforts to locate the fugitive suspect.
Reporter Ezra Tshisa Sibanda said the woman poured fuel over Melissa Ndlovu, her husband and their baby before starting the fire. The infant survivor remains under intensive medical care as staff work to preserve the child's life. Family members speaking anonymously expressed disappointment with investigators from Matopo Police, stating they have received no updates about progress in the case. The suspect disappeared after the incident and has not been apprehended.
