Nyongane road ambush leaves two dead, cops launch 72-hour manhunt

Cops launched a three-day manhunt after a family got ambushed on a rural road. Police in Mpumalanga are searching for gunmen who killed two men and critically wounded a woman near Hazyview on Nyongane Main Road, with a young child surviving the attack unharmed.

Authorities say an unknown number of shooters hid in bushes before firing on the vehicle around dusk. The driver kept going for a short distance before crashing, after which the attackers walked up and shot the two men at close range. The woman, believed to be the driver's wife, was hospitalized with multiple gunshot wounds. Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane confirmed the double murder and attempted murder case originating from the Nyongane Trust area.

The acting provincial commissioner, Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi, denounced the brazen daytime violence that endangered a child's life. The activated seventy-two-hour plan is a standard protocol for major crimes, mobilizing all available resources for immediate intelligence gathering and suspect apprehension before evidence disappears. This response underscores a push to address safety concerns in rural regions known for such shootings.
