Jesuits Crash Parliament to Teach MPs

Zimbabwe's Parliament signed an agreement with Silveira House to improve how lawmakers work with communities. The Jesuit institution will train members of Parliament about social and economic problems facing citizens. Father John Dove started Silveira House during 1964 as a center for civic education and skills training. The organization teaches people about democracy and helps marginalized groups across the country. Roman Catholic leaders named the institution after Father Gonçalo da Silveira from the 1500s.

Father George Bwanali represents Silveira House and spoke at the signing ceremony about better governance. He said lawmakers need help from churches and community groups to make good decisions for everyone. The priest believes government cannot solve problems alone without citizen input and cooperation. Public trust must improve between voters and their elected representatives to build a stronger nation. Both organizations want to create laws that help vulnerable people the most.

The partnership will teach MPs how to examine proposed laws more carefully before voting. Silveira House experts will show lawmakers how communities really live and what problems they face daily. Parliament hopes better training will lead to more thoughtful debates about important issues. The agreement aims to connect politicians with ordinary people who elect them to office. Citizens deserve leaders who make decisions based on real experiences rather than political theories.
